P+F Construction was recently featured in the Greenville Business Journal article, “Upstate Construction Companies Navigate Skilled-Labor Shortage,” which explored how firms across the region are responding to one of the industry’s most pressing challenges—the growing shortage of skilled workers.
In the article, Steve Foushee, Vice President of Project Management and Co-Founder of P+F Construction, shared insights into how workforce dynamics are shifting and what that means for safety and leadership in the field.
“What we’re finding is that with the younger workforce coming in, there’s a large labor gap between experience,” said Foushee. “We have some really young people coming into the industry that have not been around construction, and we have to watch very carefully safety surrounding that workforce. Construction is, by virtue what we do, it can be dangerous.”
Bridging the Experience Gap
Across the Upstate, the construction market remains strong—driven by continued population growth and economic investment. But with many experienced professionals nearing retirement and fewer skilled workers entering the trades, companies are being challenged to think differently about how they recruit, train, and retain talent.
At P+F, that challenge is met with a People First approach. The firm is deeply committed to investing in its people through mentorship, training, and culture—empowering the next generation of builders to learn from seasoned professionals while upholding the company’s values of safety, integrity, and craftsmanship.
“People are the foundation of everything we build,” Foushee added. “Our role as leaders is not only to complete great projects, but to help build confident, capable teams who carry our standards forward.”
Investing in the Future of Construction
P+F continues to collaborate with trade partners, educators, and industry organizations to help strengthen the local talent pipeline. Through intentional workforce development and a focus on safety-first practices, the firm is doing more than building structures—it’s building opportunity.
As the construction industry evolves, one thing remains constant: the need for skilled, passionate people who take pride in their craft. For P+F Construction, that’s where every great project begins—with people.
